FAQ

Q: What is Phonics?
  A:

English spelling is based upon what's known as the alphabetic principle. This means that letters represent the sounds of the spoken language. There are 71 basic letters and letter combinations in English and they represent 44 sounds, known as phonemes. In order to be able to read well, children need to learn both the sounds, and the letters and letter combinations that represent them. Phonics is an effective method for teaching students to read at the word level. Single letter sounds are taught first, then the sounds that letters make in combination and finally in simple words. A secure grasp of phonics rules means that a child will be able to attempt to read most words in the English language and therefore make excellent progress toward full literacy.

Q: Learning Phonics can help children handling their examinations and dictations, how can it help?
  A:

Phonics teachs children the relationship between each letter and its sound. Learning Phonics is an excellent foundation for children learning to read and spell. After learning Phonics, once the children hear a new word, it is easy for them to spell it, since they know the relationship between the sound and the letter. When the children prepare their examinations or dictations, they can have their revision easily, just focus on the meaning and the usage of the words can do.

Q: Learning Phonics can help children reading English reference books, how can it help?
  A:

Phonics reading is an important part of helping children learn to read. Phonics teaches children how to sound out words by getting them to understand the sounds of certain letter blends. These letters when used together make a sound that they don't make when they are used alone. Once children understand phonics they can read with ease and more fluidity. With this ability, it helps your child to overcome reading barriers.

Q: Is learning Phonics popular in the countries using English as their mother tongue?
  A:

The Bush administration was making a concerted effort to promote the teaching of phonics in America’s classrooms since 2002. Bush administration officials said they believe phonics is the best approach for teaching reading.

Q: Why we should learn Phonics in our childhood?
  A:

Phonics is an effective method for teaching students to read at the word level. An U.S. researcher, Dr. Marilyn J. Adams produced a report on the role of phonics instruction in beginning reading. In her report, she argued strongly that the phonics and the whole language advocates are both right. Phonics is an effective way to teach students the alphabetic code, building their skills in decoding unknown words. By learning the alphabetic code early, she argued, students can quickly free up mental energy they had used for word analysis and devote this mental effort to meaning, leading to stronger comprehension earlier in elementary school.

Q: How to choose the right Phonics teaching materials?
  A:

Q: How to attract children to attend the Phonics courses?
  A:

Q: For a complete set of teaching materials, what should be included?
  A:

A complete set of teaching materials should include progress reports, which can let parents and teachers know the learning level of a child. If parents or teachers found that a child is not familiarize with a particular topic, it is easy for you to help your child to have a revision on that topic or learn that topic again.

Q: What is the difference between learning Phonics and learning Phonetics? Which one should I choose?
  A:

Q: What is the difference between Phonics learning courses and the interactive learning CD-ROMs with music and cartoon in the market?
  A:

坊間有許多以音樂或繞口令例如 「A-A-A a for Apple A-A-A ...」或 「A-A-A Amy ate an apple ...」
